I noticed when I just tried to login that one of the letters of the Security Code graphic was half off the side of the graphic, which obviously made it difficult to read. Is this intentional?
Also will you be releasing you version of the Captcha? |

wasnt aware of that specific problem, it may be related to the users display resolution setting so thats something I need to look into - thanks for the info!!
The Captcha you see is actuallu part of the next Raven Nuke distro (not yet released)and whilst I had not planned on re-distributing the support files for it together with the modifications needed to the core files I could certainly ask Raven if he has any objections.
The actual Captcha 'class' file thats used is publicly available so I don't think there are any problems with copyright etc.
I'm actually (as time allows) still working on my animated Captcha which uses a class to process an animated gif image, one letter at a time - I think this idea has the potential to circumvent any current character recognition technology which others might use to try and read the security image. |

If it happens again I'll grab a screen capture and send it on.
How else does this new captcha differ from the standard Nuke security code? Is it just the look which makes it more difficult for character recognition?
The animated captcha sounds interesting, I'll look forward to seeing that.
Has any consideration been given to a sound option? Not necessarily on it's own, but an option than someone can click on to hear the letters. I know that captcha often cause partially sighted, or blind people problems.
I guess it might cause problems from a language point of view, but it might be possible. |

Excuse the typo's in this if there are any - just got in from a 14 hour shift
The new captcha is much harder to read but more importantly, the way it generates the random string is harder to crack which should make it much harder for the automated bots we have seen of late to create accounts using an automated bot/script.
The specific captcha class used does actually for audio captcha's as well - on the downside, you need root server access to load the required support files unless you have an extremely understanding host who will install them for you.
As soon as I get the time to incorporate the audio captcha option within the code that calls the captcha's I intend to make sure all the 5 servers we use at Hosting Begins has the necessary support files for it loaded up.
You raised a valid point about language but I am going to assume there are language dependant files that can be installed on the server and hopefully the nuke default language setting should be able to grab the correct one.
For ease of maintenance I'll only be installing the english lang file. |
