These changes were outlined in the European Directive 2002/58/EC, primarily in article 5. What is more commonly termed "The Cookie Law" passed into force last year and requires website owners to provide upfront information about what information they are recording and obtain user consent.
All websites across the EU, regardless of where their servers are located, will have to adhere to these new privacy requirements. This includes EU citizens operating private websites, domains registered within the EU or domain names whose owners are EU citizens, business' who operate within the EU or any business that conducts business with with EU citizens.

An easy to install module with built in table creation (no installer required) and utiising the excellent Project Honeypot API to stop visitors engaged in Comment Spamming, Harvesting and other suspicious activity. It is worth noting that we have been using the code on this site for over 2 years now with NO spam being made and only 1 false postive - though that particular user never came back.
This is a simple to install module, which needs only one line of code (provided) adding to your mainfile.php file. You will need a free API Key and you can download CA Honeypot for free.

Dreamhost's Twitter feed excerpt;

Last night we detected some unauthorized activity within one of our databases. While we don't have evidence that customer passwords were taken at this time, we're forcing a change out of caution. Please login to our web panel and change any passwords you may have with us. We'll keep this post updated as we get more information.

Update Jan 20th, 09:50pm PST: We're going to set this post to resolved. We have been sending out update emails to every account owner we have, letting them know what happened, and how to proceed from here on out. As a precaution, we advise every user to change all email passwords as well. We are not forcing this change, however, so make sure you take care of that ASAP. -Brian H

Update Jan 20th, 08:15pm PST: Forced updates to FTP/shell users should now be done. Any users that are locked out should update their passwords via the web panel. If you're still unable to get in, please let support know asap. -Brian H

Under certain circumstances, limitations set by a hosting provider trigger the vulnerability, which can disclose sensitive information.

Code Authors clients whom we have installed this script for have already had their sites modified free of charge to prevent this information disclosure and fix a weakness in the ported Gallery 2 script. Other clients have already been notified via email.
Further information is available to those we know who use this ported script via mail or PM.
